Creativity implies a deep curiosity to explore and discover who we are. This process goes far beyond simple implanted beliefs from the outside. In this sense, creative self-knowledge allows us to question our own essence. Furthermore, it helps us freely investigate our true personal identity. Therefore, this therapeutic path fosters a much more open mindset. Consequently, the patient manages to connect with their nature authentically.
Operatively, the difference between believing and inquiring is very marked. Believing projects a rigid pattern in a person’s mind. Usually, this pattern is used to protect imposed or blindly accepted beliefs. In this way, the individual tries to survive in a highly conditioning environment. Conversely, by inquiring, the person enters a reflective dimension. As a result, they begin to ask themselves valuable questions. Likewise, they question their surroundings in a flexible and receptive manner.
We can categorically state that believing is a compulsive act. Meanwhile, inquiring is a totally conscious and liberating process. Emotional ignorance is the starting point for many patients. Most experience a kind of very painful internal claustrophobia. Their unvented emotions are the fundamental cause of their deep distress. However, creative self-knowledge helps them surrender to the healing process. Finally, the person learns to experience their emotions naturally.
Carla’s Case: Healing Trauma
For 16 years, Carla has firmly believed she is a burden to her family. Unfortunately, the maternal bond is broken due to severe rejection. She suffers the consequences of an epigenetics marked by gender abuse. This terrible legacy was also perpetuated by her own father. In fact, he physically assaulted her during a severe anxiety crisis. Consequently, Carla was harshly conditioned by this abusive history. Her trauma requires very careful intervention.
The false belief of being a burden led her to attempt suicide twice. Additionally, her parents maintain the idea that she is simply ungrateful. This negative reinforcement contributed to the development of her current psychotic symptoms. Currently, Carla is medicated with antipsychotics that she takes with much resistance. Nevertheless, in therapy, she begins to explore her taste for writing. Through creative self-knowledge, she captures her anger in a personal journal. This recommendation proves vital.Simultaneously, she writes song lyrics to express her need for love. Then, she learns to set them to music by integrating rhythm, harmony, and her preferred style. Luckily, her psychologist also uses graphic expression for the same purpose. Under this therapeutic support, Carla begins to express her true intelligence. With a non-pathologizing approach, we hope she discovers her enormous potentials. In that atmosphere, creative self-knowledge happens agilely. Progressively, this mental clarity mitigates her initial confusion.

Integration into Daily Life Through Creative Self-Knowledge
The distress of living is often related to sterile existence patterns. To counteract this, the therapeutic process relies on two key elements. First, we use creativity to understand personal experience and solve vital problems. Second, we foster the patient’s fluid discourse and symbolic language. In this way, creative self-knowledge opens a direct door to fulfillment. Without diagnostic exception, patients achieve very positive results. Their destructive emotions are gradually transformed into art.
At the same time, I combine this valuable work with my role as an occupational therapist. The central idea is to transfer this curiosity to activities of daily living. For example, we observe how patients usually comb their hair or dress. We also notice how they wash the dishes in their homes. All these everyday actions must represent an extension of their therapeutic work. Consequently, sanity is reflected in small daily details. The routine takes on a completely new meaning. In simple words, the curiosity driven by creative self-knowledge transforms lives. It implies a genuine attempt to understand how we live our daily lives. Aesthetic experiences and the professional’s attitude feed this wonderful awakening. Actually, the process stimulates and motivates the person constantly. Depending on each individual, healing emerges directly and spontaneously. In conclusion, art teaches us to live with greater harmony and clarity every day.
