Yadira Albornoz

Dr. Albornoz is a music therapist specializing in psychotherapy and an occupational therapist specializing in physical and mental health. She obtained a PhD and master's degrees in music therapy and a bachelor's degree in music from Temple University-Philadelphia, as well as a university degree in occupational therapy from the University College of Rehabilitation-Hospital Pérez Carreño Hospital-Caracas. She is a clarinetist, singer and composer. Dr. Albornoz has been a therapist for more than 35 years in the medical, psychotherapeutic and social areas in the USA, Venezuela and China, both public and private, with children/adolescents, adults and the elderly. She designed, coordinated and taught in the first music therapy graduate program in music therapy in Venezuela from 2010 to 2017 at the University of Los Andes. She has taught music therapy in the United States (Marietta College) and China (Minzu University of China). Albornoz studied African Dance at the Freedom Theater of Philadelphia and Cuban dance and music at the Instituto Superior de Música, Habana. As a composer, her works are diverse and have been premiered in Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Philadelphia, USA, Brazil and China. She studied voice with Louise Parker (Temple University). She is a researcher and author. Her publications include books, research, and discography. She has been a Yoga practitioner for several years obtaining an international certification as a Yoga instructor from Yoga Inbound Alliance, India –Caracas.
